Driving positive change through the Frazer Jones UK Trustee Network

At Frazer Jones, we work hard to constantly create positive change and growth for our clients, candidates and of course the HR industry as a whole.

As the world focuses more on diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) and environmental, governance and social (ESG), more non-profits and charities are recruiting voluntary Trustees who want to help advance their purpose with their expertise.

That’s why we run the Frazer Jones UK Trustee Network: a community that connects non-profit and charities with Trustees across the UK.

What is the Frazer Jones UK Trustee Network?

The Frazer Jones UK Trustee Network is a pro-bono initiative we created to help our networks and communities. We are in a privileged position of speaking to HR professionals who want to develop themselves personally and professionally, so we knew the appetite to become a Trustee was high.

The UK has a thriving third sector/non-profit division, so the need for HR professionals to join organisations in a Trustee capacity was even higher. Born out of this was the Frazer Jones UK Trustee Network. We connect HR professionals who want to become Trustees with organisations looking to hire people-focused individuals.

As part of our work with Trustees we have put together a host of resources and information to help HR executives understand what a Trustee role entails and how you can go about securing a position as a Trustee.

Our guide provides insights and resources into why and how to become a Trustee. It also looks to answer some of the key questions such as “What is the role of a Trustee” and “What value can a HR professional add to a Trustee position.”

KEY QUESTIONS

What does a Trustee do?

A Trustee role is a voluntary position where you support the leadership team and help with key issues or projects as they arise. These may be people or culture-orientated, from strategic initiatives through to operational queries such as a complex employee relation issue.

You can read this interview to hear directly from Trustee and HR Director, Scott Sullivan, on what it means to him to be a Trustee for Diverse Role Models charity.

Why do businesses need Trustees?

Third-sector organisations such as charities and non-profits sometimes rely on external expertise.

With tight budgets and restrictive resources, the support and advice from a Trustee can be hugely helpful to their success.

Why did we launch the network?

Fundamentally, giving back to the community is important to us and also aligns with our commitments to ESG.

Additionally, we know the importance of professional and personal development for our network and so being able to connect, help and support that journey seemed the right thing to do.

What our members say

Changing Lives Together is Cheshire’s largest charity delivering services across the county for thousands of local people. Our mission is to create a better life for local people and improve their environment and wellbeing. In March 2023 the Board of the Charity recognised the need to recruit additional Trustees to grow the board and replace to replace retiring Trustees.

Frazer Jones through Fay Phillips-Jones responded to a post we placed on our LinkedIn page promoting the voluntary positions and offered to assist us directly with finding new Trustees. Through their three specific recruitment agencies, they were incredibly supportive and helpful and undertook the work pro bono. We cannot thank them enough for the help and assistance they provided. They were professional and supportive throughout the recruitment process. We have two new Trustees on board and more to hopefully follow. Thank you, Frazer Jones. “

The Gingerbread Centre has been operating for
over 40 years providing support to vulnerable and
homeless families with personal development, training,
accommodation and encouragement, so they can
regain their independence. They cover Stoke-on-Trent,
Staffordshire and Cheshire providing key services and
support to homeless families and vulnerable lone parents.

“The Gingerbread Centre worked with The SR Group’s specialist brands of Frazer Jones, Brewer Morris and Taylor Root to support on a number of appointments for our Board. The collaboration between the three agencies and The Gingerbread Centre was a game changer for our Board, injecting vitality and expertise to tackle our upcoming challenges. The dedication, commitment, and understanding exhibited by each
agency were exceptional, recognizing the potential in leveraging their HR, legal, and finance networks. The response was not just positive but downright overwhelming, with applications pouring in continuously.”

“SEDSConnective is a charity that diligently supports and fights for equal opportunities for the community. It is important for us to identify the right partners who share similar values and enable the communities through practice.

Frazer Jones developed a great brief for our outreach programme and introduced SEDSConnective to an amazing set of individuals in the applicable talent pool. After conducting a cognizant and thorough selection process, we have introduced two great people as our Trustees for Human Resources and Legal. We highly recommend Frazer Jones as a recruitment partner if you are a charity that is looking for talent.”

Getting involved

Who does the Trustee Network help and how?

The network enables Trustees to support three communities.

Firstly, the organisation, by allowing them to tap into your experience and advice as a Trustee.

Secondly, the end recipient that the charity helps or the non-profit services.

Lastly, you, both personally and professionally. You’ll increase your awareness and creative thinking on how to support an organisation (often with limited budgets and resources), especially if you come from a thriving commercial environment. You’ll also gain the sense of fulfilment that you are contributing to your community and the rewards in return are immeasurable!

How can candidates and clients get involved?

Please fill out the form below to join our trustee network. You’ll also receive a free copy of our Trustee toolkit, which tells you all you need to know about becoming a Trustee.

We want to reiterate that this is not a paid service. It is a referral programme for any charities or non-profits wishing us to connect them with HR professionals, and for HR professionals wishing us to connect them with organisations looking for Trustees.
