10+ years’ experience in the manufacturing sector and being bilingual in English and Spanish is required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Participate in the selection process for salaried and key leadership roles at the plants.
- Drive a structured interview process for plant staff.
- Identify trends or concerns related to hourly hiring and workforce planning and take appropriate action to address them.
- Ensure that corporate policies, procedures, and legal standards are followed throughout the hiring process.
- Support diversity and inclusion efforts in the plant’s recruitment practices.
- Collaborate with plants to implement initiatives that improve capabilities, capacity, and succession planning.
- Onboard new managers and ensure smooth integration into their roles.
- Design and implement effective local compensation programs, in collaboration with Corporate Compensation.
- Clearly communicate pension and retirement programs to employees.
- Apply best practices in implementing compensation changes, such as spot bonuses, job structures, and base rates.
- Provide training on compensation and benefits to local resources, addressing any concerns or issues.
- Ensure General Wage Increases are communicated clearly within the plant.
- Stay informed on new laws and regulations and assist with local-level implementation.
- Apply talent management processes and help identify performance issues when necessary.
- Conduct annual harassment and workplace violence training sessions.
- Participate in local and HR-wide SPS initiatives.
- Ensure completion of diversity, inclusion, and unconscious bias training at the plant level (when available).
- Promote the use of Sonoco University for training and development resources.
- Offer support to employees with concerns related to performance, problem-solving, and last-chance agreements.
- Implement company policies, such as attendance guidelines, when necessary.
- Facilitate open discussions and meetings to address complaints and resolve conflicts.
- Foster positive relationships with both salaried and hourly employees.
- Develop relationships with local union representatives and manage contract administration.
- Collaborate with the Labor Relations group to resolve grievances.
- Utilize relevant systems for daily operational tasks (e.g., KRONOS, SIMON, Workday).
- Understand key business processes enabled by these systems, such as payroll and benefits.
- Build effective relationships with internal business partners, earning their trust and respect.
- Balance employee needs with business interests.
- Manage multiple tasks effectively and efficiently.
Qualifications:
- Fluent in both English and Spanish (required)
- 10+ years of direct HR experience (preferred)
- Master’s degree (preferred)
- HR certification (HRCI or SHRM) (preferred)
