Early Careers Advisor
About the team:
The Early Careers team is part of the HR function of a leading global law firm. The team is responsible for developing and delivering an effective training program for the firm’s future talent, trainee solicitors.
About the role:
The Early Careers Development Advisor will work with the Early Careers and HR teams to support the firm’s Training Principal and Training Committee in managing the trainee solicitor program. The program currently includes all individuals on the 2-year QWE Training Contract, with the potential to work on the launch of the firm’s Solicitor Apprenticeship program. The role will also involve close collaboration with the Learning and Development Team to support and collaborate on the in-house “Trainee Academy” skills program.
Responsibilities:
- Manage the post-offer process and onboarding of future trainees into their training contract.
- Manage the program development and successful delivery of the trainee induction.
- Manage the firm’s new joiner administration for all trainees.
- Arrange seat rotation training and the introduction of the Trainee Academy for first-seat trainees.
- Take ownership of the seat rotation process.
- Liaise with Client Relationship Leads regarding client secondments as part of the seat rotation process.
- Support, challenge, and coach current and future trainees to discuss their seat preferences in line with the business need.
- Provide Partners and Trainee Supervisors with professional direction and guidance.
- Manage the seat performance/appraisal process.
- Own day-to-day performance management.
- Advise the Training Principal and relevant Trainee Supervisors about the performance of trainees.
- Conduct career development meetings with each trainee.
- Meet with trainees relating to occupational health, difficult personal situations, conduct, or general queries relating to seats or qualification.
- Ensure compliance with SRA requirements.
- Liaise with the Early Careers Advisor to input into the SQE Provider’s planning and content for future trainees.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders.
- Chair regular meetings with Trainee Cohort Representatives.
- Work collaboratively with the Training Principal, Training Partner, and L&D team to deliver Supervisor Training.
- Support the Graduate Recruitment team and the Training Principal with the qualification process.
- Manage confidential issues that arise from both prospective and current trainees.
- Suggest ideas for change, innovation, or greater efficiency on existing processes and trainee initiatives.
- Contribute to team meetings and project planning days.
- Support the wider Early Careers team at key periods, including attraction, talent screening, and internal events.
