Supporting Juneteenth

Frazer Jones observes Juneteenth as a holiday, as an important opportunity, to better commemorate and celebrate Black history and culture. We encourage all our employees to celebrate the end of slavery and educate themselves around black history and the move towards greater equality. 

On June 19th, we commemorate the end of slavery in the United States. On January 1st 1863, President Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation officially declared the end of slavery in the United States. But thousands of people living in slavery weren’t made aware of their freedom until Union soldiers arrived in Galveston on June 19th 1865. For over two and a half years, thousands remained in slavery, despite being freed. 

We don’t celebrate the moment when Black Americans were declared free from slavery. We celebrate the moment when the last Black people were actually freed from slavery. We celebrate Juneteenth because Black Lives Matter.
